Buchach Cheese Making Plant has its own interesting history.
The prototype of today’s modern dairy plant was “Butter Union” in the village of Old Petlykivtsi. After the First World War the cooperation in Western Ukraine was rapidly developing, especially of dairy products production: butter, cheese, feta cheese.
Natural conditions of Buchach lands were not worse than of Western European countries. The residents of the province, especially those who went abroad during the war, were sincerely interested in processing milk and selling dairy product. In those old days, the sales of quality dairy were always good both on domestic and foreign markets. Butter and cheese were exported to European capitals: Warsaw and Vienna.
Factory-made cheese overtook traditional cheesemaking. In the period after 1946 there was a small butter plant in the village. In the seventies a rapid development of the Ternopil region dairy industry happened, new plants (mainly cheesemaking plants) were built in nearly every regional center. And so in 1972 they opened a new butter- and cheese making plant in Buchach. It used to process up to 35 thousand tons of milk per year those days. The main products were so called Dutch cheese, country butter, and a small number of the fresh dairy products.
In the eighties a number of reorganizational changes and a reconstruction of the main production areas took place. In 1993 at the general meeting it was decided to establish an Open Joint Stock company, and in 2002 – a Private Joint Stock Company.
The Chairman and Managing Director, Dorosh Mykhaylo Adamovych, has been running the enterprise since 1986. He graduated from Kyiv Technological Institute of Food Industry and started at the plant as a chief engineer first, and after a year, in 1987, he became its managing director, and then the company Chairman too. During his period of leadership, Mr. Dorosh’s team achieved significant success in the industrial, commercial and economic activities. In 2003, Mr. M.A.Dorosh was awarded the title “Knight of Galicia” in the “Best Food Producer” nomination.
Since its establishment, the company developed its own production technologies, its staff gained sufficient experience in the field, the workers’ and specialists’ skills increased dramatically, expanding the range of cheeses and other dairy products.
At the moment Buchach Cheese Making Plant is in a position to produce top quality cheeses that are highly competitive with the best cheeses on the Ukrainian markets.
